Arrival, car collection at Madeira’s airport, drive to Funchal.
Explore the city of Funchal starting by the botanical garden, visit the Núcleo Museológico da Boa Nova, a museum under the guidance of a local where you can learn interesting facts about the tradition and folklore. Visit the old town, its pretty squares and narrow streets. Pass by the famous market hall where flowers, fruits and vegetables, as well as fish are sold. Opportunity to taste a few different delicious tropical fruits. Visit the handicrafts in a typical embroidery, observe the local women during the production, and even participate in it. Rest of day at leisure.
Drive to the East of the Island. We suggest a visit to the following remote areas: Camacha, famous as the wicker work village; Pico do Arieiro, one of the highest points of the island; Ribeiro Frio, to visit the curious trout hatchery. Not to be missed as well: Santana Village, with its traditional thatched roofed cottages; Porto da Cruz and Portela, with a spectacular view over the town of Machico. Return to hotel.
Relax in the hotel facilities or free activities. Our suggestion: visit the Island of Porto Santo on the local ferry boat; walk through the levadas (Water canals), or visit some of the Madeira Museums.
Day to drive to the West – We suggest a visit to the small fishing village of Câmara de Lobos; Cabo Girão, the most famous cape of Madeira: the seaside village of Ribeira Brava; Serra de Água and Encumeada, where you can enjoy the view to both the North and the South coast; Porto Moniz, famous for its natural pools and Paúl da Serra, a 1400m high plateau. End the tour with an included farewell dinner.
